The AIDS Committee of Toronto
The AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT) is a community-based, charitable organization that provides support, HIV prevention and education services for people living with and at risk for HIV/AIDS.Founded in 1983, ACT provides free, confidential supportive and practical services to men, women and youth living with HIV/AIDS and we provide information and support to friends, partners, and families of people living with HIV/AIDS. ACT works with gay and bisexual men, Portuguese-speaking communities, youth and women at increased risk for HIV infection, to develop and deliver HIV/AIDS prevention education and outreach programs.
ACT has a 20-year history of delivering services for people living with HIV including education, advocacy and emotional support. ACT not only funds its own programs, but through the Community Partners Fund, provides essential dollars for programs and services to some AIDS service organizations in Toronto. Its full-time staff is supplemented by more than 1,400 volunteers who donate hours equivalent to an additional 32 full-time positions each year. Over 50% of revenues come from individual and corporate donations whereas most charities rely on government or foundation support for the majority of fundraising. 57% of ACT's private fundraising revenue comes from Fashion Cares. Nearly 80% of ACT's revenue is spent on service/program delivery.
