Welcome to jdayminis Ebay, so nice of you to
visit!!
II live in beautiful Victoria
B.C., Canada, across the street from Willows Beach, right on
the ocean, with my husband John, I have two grown sons and two
fun loving cats.
After receiving my B.Ed and B.F.A.
from the University of Victoria, I taught Art for a number of years. I had worked at our Museum in the display department painting flora, fauna and helping to create dioramas. I also painted Coats of Arms for a Heraldry Company and painted a number of the backdrops for the Miniature Museum here in Victoria at that time. For about twelve years weaving was a passion and I gave workshops in tapestry weaving .
Then I discovered Miniatures about twenty six years ago. We bought out a miniature shop that was closing and I started selling full line miniatures through my home and by mail order. I met many other miniaturists who supported my earlier effort and encouraged me to sell my handcrafted miniatures. I have given workshops in most of the miniature arts from porcelain dolls to fimo items. The porcelain portrait dolls I found to be challenging and fun, each one unique and enjoyable. I sold at
shows locally and in Vancouver and through my mail order business
which was called Daydream Miniatures.
Viola Williams did a feature on my
portrait dolls in Dolls in Miniature magazine Spring 1995. More
recently I was asked to display one of my dolls
at the Museum of Civilization in Hull, Quebec as an original Canadian
doll artist, that was such an honour.
In 2004 I was very pleased to be in three publications. January 2004,
Viola Williams wrote an article about my work for the British Dolls' House magazine. My work and a project were also featured in September 2004, Dollhouse Miniatures Magazine written by Laura Morris and more recently there was a full page write-up about my books and dolls in our local newspaper. I was so honoured.
I now make miniature books and
design fabric panel kits. These combine my enjoyment of graphic arts with my
love of vintage books and collectibles. John, my DH has recently retired and is very supportive. I also enjoy working on micro miniatures, room boxes and painting both large and miniature watercolors. I have been fortunate to take a number of Brooke Tucker's workshops that she gave here in Victoria and at my studio. She is so encouraging and an excellent instructor.
Since Brooke thought I should write a
miniature book, I started making miniature books just as a bit of a
joke to tease her!! A small book wasn't exactly what she had in mind
but making mini books turned out to be such a joy for me and has been a
wonderful experience and way to combine my love of collecting old
children's books and photo albums and miniatures. I've been selling on
Ebay since the summer of 2003 and have loved every minute of it, especially all the terrific people I have met. Please
have a look the miniatures in my Ebay store if you have the time.
Thank you so much for visiting! I have enjoyed all the friends I have made through eBay so much!!! Cheers jdayminis
