About Us

We at Miller Lake Trading Company are a small team of hobbyists, collectors, graphic artists and fun people who truly enjoy creating, buying and selling. Our group is small in number but big in ideas. We work with great people outside our company to compliment what we sell, what we create, as well as assist us with bringing in rare finds and collectables.

We decided to get into eBay because we love the auction game and love to share our great finds. It’s also fun to snag that bid at the last minute (as some of you really keen customers have done on our auctions)!

All fun aside, we are very serious about customer satisfaction. It is our top priority. We communicate with you throughout your transaction, and beyond. We are always striving to improve and evolve. It is extremely important to us that you are happy with your purchase, as well as with your experience with us. We want you to walk away thinking, wow - they really do care - because we do!

We are also very serious about the items we sell. Our products are top quality and safe for long term storage for coins, stamps, postcards, etc. We use pretty much every product we sell for our collections, as we enjoy our products as much as you do. We only deal with top manufacturers as only the best will do for our customers.

Each member of our team has been in business at least 10 years, and we, the owners for over 20. Our team works well together because we love what we do.

Our team’s experience includes retail sales, setting up small businesses, administrative systems, accounting, IT solutions, organizing solutions, graphics and printing, photography, graphic art, branding and marketing, and a whole host of other talents we won’t bore you with.

Our mission is straightforward: to provide our customers with the highest quality products and services. We believe that honesty, integrity and a great work ethic are a must to run a great business!

The following is to provide you additional information, as well as explain in detail our terms and conditions:

Products for Collectors

We have access to hundreds of products for a variety of collectors. We focus mainly on Coin, Stamp and Postcard storage and presentation, however, many of our products can be used for more than one type of collection. The products we sell are of high quality and from reputable manufacturers. If a product does not meet our standards, we will not carry it. We carry and sell more products than we advertise for our regular customers who request them. When demand for a product increases, we generally add it to our line of regular advertised inventory. We welcome your comments and opinions on the products we sell, as well as your suggestions. If you are ever not completely satisfied with any product you pruchase from us, please contact us. Your satisfaction is our top priority.

Our Postcards

We have thousands of postcards in our inventory. If you are looking for a particular postcard, email us with the exact description and we will check to see if we have it. We focus mostly on vintage postcards from the early 1900s to the 50s. We do, however, carry later ones as well. We also sell postcard lots. All vintage (standard vintage size) postcards come with protective sleeves. We outfit them with sleeves as soon as we receive them, as we have to handle them. We do not want to age them any more than we have to. We will not remove the sleeves when we sell them - the increased postage cost on a lot is minimal, and it saves you the hassle and cost of buying extra sleeves and putting them on yourself. We only use archival safe sleeves (we sell them as well – check our store).

If you are searching for a postcard which we do not have, and wish us to put you on our back-order list, email us and let us know. When the postcard comes in, we will contact you and put it up for sale in our eBay store.

We also have "filler" cards for you die hard collectors who must own a certain postcard. Let us know and we will sell it as a "filler" – price depends on age, publisher and condition. Of course the cost will be considerably less than a collector card.

Postcard Grading

We try to grade our postcards very carefully. Our grading chart is our opinion and may not be the opinion of others. We grade most of our postcards in good to excellent condition. However, because we sell vintage postcards, we do not grade them as excellent too often.

What we consider excellent must be like mint in appearance – no creases, no blunt corners, no wear on the edge of the postcard anywhere on the postcard. A tiny crease is a crease. We grade our postcards very harshly because we would rather our customers be happy than disappointed. We have purchased postcards from various sources that were graded "excellent" that we would have graded "good to very good".

Our grading system is as follows:

M – Mint
A perfect card as though it came straight off the press. This grade is rare.

NM – Near Mint
Like mint but the picture will not be as sharp or crisp.

EX – Excellent
Like mint with no bends, creases, rounded or blunt corners. May have writing and be postally used, but only on the address side.

VG – Very Good
Slight imperfections due to age, corners may be rounded or slightly blunt, may show almost undetectable crease or bend. May have writing and be postally used, but only on the address side.

G – Good
Somewhat noticeable imperfections due to age, such as corner wear or edge wear, including slight creases. May have writing and be postally used, but only on the address side. If postal stamp bleeds through slightly and does not affect the picture, we may still grade it good, however, we will clearly indicate such. A “very good” postcard could be graded “good” because of the postal stamp bleeding through. However, if it is in almost “excellent” condition, we will mark it “very good” and tell you about the bleed.

F – Fair
Card is intact, however, stains, creases, writing, or postal cancellation may affect the picture. This card is used as a filler until a better one comes along.

If you require information on a product you wish to bid on, please do so 24 hours before a weekend or holiday. However, since most of us work on our own businesses or work different schedules, we may answer emails after hours. We’re letting you know this so you are not surprised when we answer you after hours, and in turn, don’t expect us to. There is always someone available on weekdays to address your questions or concerns.

Payment

We prefer PayPal. Per eBay's new policy, sellers cannot advertise in their listing form or in a listing that they accept money orders or cheques. However, sellers are allowed to accept these methods of payment if they wish, provided the buyer has requested it. Therefore, we will accept money orders and personal cheques in US or Canadian funds. Please ensure that your money order/personal cheque is cashable in Canada. You may use the current eBay exchange rate if you wish to pay in Canadian funds. New customers may have to wait 5 - 10 business days for clearance before your order is shipped. Please notify us within 24 hours if you intend to mail your payment by sending us an email. Payments must be received within ten (10) days. We prefer payments upon close of auction(s) or "buy it now" options, unless you notify us of combined auctions to be closed within ten (10) days. If you do not contact us or do not pay within ten (10) days, we will file a non-payment complaint with eBay. We don’t like to do this so please don’t enter a bid contract if you don’t intend to pay. Please don’t ignore our emails – we are reasonable people – if you have an issue, please contact us right away.

Purchases must be combined in order to receive a shipping discount, where applicable. Discount is as stated or you may email us for a rate. Please note, your combined auctions may have a shipping charge already attached to the auction. The rate will have to be adjusted. If you wish to calculate the adjusted rate yourself (in the case of Canadian residents - with the tax adjustment), please do so. Otherwise, please wait for our invoice (we usually send it within 2 hours of auction close or purchase during business hours). If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

We list our auctions in US funds so that we gain more exposure.

GST & PST (Canadian Customers)

Canadian Customers: All Canadians must add GST (5%) to the purchase price. For sales within Ontario, please add 13% tax to your order (i.e. your purchase price + GST (5%) + PST (8%). If you are not sure of the calculation, you may wait for an invoice before paying for the item. The GST and PST rates are also in US funds. It works out the same. If you were able to convert the purchase price to Canadian funds and add the GST and/or PST, you would pay the same amount. We remit the exact amount we collect from our sales to our respective tax departments. Tax is charged on sales + shipping. eBay does not separate the provincial and federal tax. Sometimes the tax will not attach to shipping. When you are paying your invoice, please ensure the tax box on shipping is checked. We still have to remit the tax. Sometimes you may receive the winning buyer notification which may state “seller does not charge tax”. This is incorrect. All Canadians must pay GST. All residents of Ontario must pay GST & PST. If the invoice does not include tax for some reason and you wish us to calculate the tax for you, please wait for our invoice before you pay. We state that Canadians must pay tax on checkout, in our auctions, and in our selling policies.

Shipping

All rates are in US funds. Items are generally shipped within 24-48 hours on business days after receiving payment. We send out an email (or two) when you pay for your purchase to let you know when your order will be shipped, and when you should expect to receive it. We are big on communication. If you require your item sooner, please contact us for rates and timeline. We will gladly combine shipping rates for our products. Because it is difficult to determine the rates on combined auctions without knowing what those items are, we indicate a standard rate, or a discounted rate for certain products (such as postcards or quantities in auctions). If you will be purchasing several products and wish to know the combined rate, please do not hesitate to contact us as sales@shopmillerlake.com, and provide us with your postal/zip code. We will be pleased to quote you a rate.

Shipping discounts only apply to combined auctions on the same invoice. If you are waiting to bid on additional auctions, please contact us so we may hold your invoice. Auctions must be combined within ten (10) days and payment is due upon completion.

We generally ship via Canada Post. We also use FedEx. However, we cannot ship to a P.O. Box using FedEx. If you choose a method of shipping other than what is listed in the auction, the rate will be higher. Please contact us for rates. Our team works out of an office/shop that is not open to the public. We are not open for pick-ups.

Shipping Specials & Promotions

From time to time, we offer shipping specials for parcel items to Canadian and US residents. While we do ship parcel items to international customers on a regular basis, we do not through eBay. This is because shipping from Canada to international destinations is very expensive and ground service is very slow. This affects our detailed seller ratings and subsequently our monthly discount from eBay. Therefore, we only sell items that can be shipped via Letter Post to destinations outside North America.

Shipping specials for Canada are for Canadian Residents only. Shipping specials for United States are for US Residents only. We will not ship parcel items to addresses outside North America through eBay. Should this policy change in the future, we will indicate so on this page, in our policies and on our FAQ page. We generally run shipping specials for Worldwide customers on postcards and advertisements.

When making purchases for combined shipping, please do not pay until you are finished shopping. Otherwise items will be shipped out and you will not qualify for the combined shipping discount. For example, if you wish to take advantage of the shipping special with the $49.00 purchase, please wait for our combined invoice before you pay - that way your shipping rate will be adjusted and everything will be shipped together. If you wish, you may combine the invoice yourself and adjust the shipping charge to the advertised special rate.

All advertised specials, promotions, etc. are subject to change without notice. We generally run various seasonal specials, as well as monthly specials.

Duties, Taxes and Brokerage (where applicable)

Certain items are subject to duties, taxes and brokerage charges. Please make sure you know the regulations of your country. We are not responsible for any of these charges. We will not mark your package as a "gift". The value of the goods is the purchase price only. The shipping is not included in the value of goods for brokerage purposes.

Insurance

All parcels sent via "Expedited Parcel" are insured up to $100.00. Additional insurance may be purchased. If your item is insured by our carrier and it is lost or damaged, we will deal with the claim - we don't expect you to. Please keep in mind that we can only put in a claim after the shipping date timeframe that our carrier allows. For international shipments, the tracing time is longer than domestic or US shipments. Each service is different as well. We do whatever we can to speed up the process.

Returns

If you are not satisfied with our product due to a fault on our part, please contact us right away at sales@shopmillerlake.com. Please provide us with the Ebay item ID, as well as the description of the item(s) you have purchased, along with the reason for your concern. We will work with you to resolve the situation. Please do not return an item unless we give you a return authorization #. Upon receipt of the item(s) in the same condition that it arrived to you, we will refund your money - less shipping and handling. If we determine fault on our part, we will refund your money, including shipping and handling. If we are able to offer you another product in its place, we will endeavour to do so.

Feedback

Feedback is very important to us. We leave feedback for you as soon as we ship your item (within 24 - 48 hours of your payment). We strive for 100% customer satisfaction - in our products and in our service.
