Sewing dog stuff started for me a couple of weeks after I arrived home with an 8-week old Standard Manchester Terrier named "Packet". While we'd had dogs before, we'd NEVER experienced one that loves to snuggle the way Packet does! Not only that, but because of his extremely short hair, Packet gets cold easily, even here in the 'Warm Land'. My Mom would have just gotten busy and knit him a sweater (or two or three), but sewing is more my thing so I had to start creating snow coats, rain coats, fleece shirts, you name it, all to keep the chill away from my poor hard done by doggie. Then in a few short months I ended up with....another Manchester Terrier! Jericho, Packet's litter mate came to live with us as well. As you can see from the picture below they are even paws on participants in the sewing process - Packet keeps himself positioned so that his head usually rests on my foot as it runs the sewing machine.
While Jericho doesn't feel the cold as much as Packet, he loved to snuggle just as much, unfortunately he's twice the size and takes a lot more of the covers when he burrows into bed with my hubby and me! A snuggle sack/sleeping bag was the answer for him and before you knew it, I was making more and more items suitable for short-haired terriers and putting them on E-Bay. Packet loves modeling all the sacks that he can, but Jericho still isn't sure that he'll be able to get out of a snuggley warm sack once he gets in. Jericho is better at modelling the 'action' wear that I make even though in disposition he is a couch-potato at heart.
