As one of Canada's only full line music instrument retailers, Tom Lee Music has many departments and divisions, which specialize in the many different aspects of musical product and services.
To better acquaint you with our main store and its many departments, here is a brief overview of where you can find what. All floors are accessible via elevators or stairs. Our mezzanine level is wheelchair accessible via elevator and our department back entrance, please contact us if you should require assistance. A building directory is located at the Granville street entrance.
Free parking is located to the back of the building, as is a large pay parking lot, accessible through the back lane.
Our loading bays and service elevators permit easy loading and unloading of any equipment that could benefit from those conveniences. Please note that the following is a description of our main location at 929 Granville, Vancouver. Our branch stores generally carry or can access the same products (with some restrictions). If you discover that an item you want is not in stock at your favourite branch location, chances are it's at the main store. If this is the case, we can usually have any item sent to any one of our branch stores by the following business day at the latest, within the hour if required.
Guitar Department (Ground floor)
The TLM Guitar Department is one of the largest guitar showrooms in Canada. Featuring instruments from the world's leading manufacturers, there is an instrument here to suit everyone's tastes and needs.
The TLM Guitar Department presents almost all of its instruments in a 'displayed to be played' fashion (only collectibles and our custom models require assistance from a product specialist...you'll need a key). Our amplifier displays are integrated within the guitar display so you can freely move from one amplifier to another. Of course, with over a hundred guitars literally within arms reach, you can demo whatever you wish to make sure you've found the guitar you'll looking for.
Our acoustic guitars are presented in three unique showrooms, with climate-controlled environments that are decored in rustic woods throughout. With well over a hundred guitars on display, there is little doubt that you will find what you're looking for here.
You will also find a full range of accessories including cases, gig bags, strings, picks, capos, tuners and maintenance items such as polishes and oils. If by chance there is anything you need that we do not have in stock, our unique 'special order' program ensures that you will receive your requested item in no time at all.
TLM also has a variety of dobro, banjo and mandolins to choose from, along with their respective accessories like strings, picks and cases. High tech guitar enthusiasts will find guitar synths, amp modelling devices and a full array of effects and multi-effects to choose from.
Drum Department (Lower Level)
The Tom Lee Music Drum Department features the largest display of drums and percussion instruments in Vancouver. From the latest developments in electronic percussion technology to traditional and ethnic percussion instruments from around the world, you can find it here.
There are product specific areas within the drum department such as the Hand Hut, which features hand percussion instruments from around the world. There is also a dedicated Electronics Suite, where you can find all the latest in digital/electronic drum technology with or without headphones. You will find all kinds of accessories as well and of course a large selection of cymbals, hardware, skins and sticks.
The Drum Department staff are all drummers themselves, so you are amongst percussion enthusiasts who share your interests and are able to help you based upon their personal experiences, as well as up to date product knowledge. Want to try a different pair of sticks but aren't sure which ones? Maybe you've put your foot through that kick head for the last time, and you want a durable head that doesn't feel like cardboard. The TLM Drum Department staff can help, and besides all this....they're darn nice guys too!
TLM provides drum instruction with some of the countries most respected teachers and players If you want to bring your chops to the next level or just want a little inspiration to get better, check in with our instructors for availability.
Practice rooms are also available if you need some time alone to hone your skills, call ahead to book your room and feel free to play as loud as you want without any worry of eviction or the neighbours! Full kits are supplied, but you can bring whatever you want via our loading bay and service elevators.
Digital Department (Mezzanine)
The TLM Digital Department brings the latest in digital technologies and products to you for your pro recording and multimedia needs.
Our Pro Keyboard department and DJ department are located on this floor as well. You will find high-end analog processors, digital to analog converters and a selection of the world's finest microphones, software and associated hardware, and made to order DAW's in either PC or Mac platforms. Stand alone digital recorders and mixers plus a full array of cables, data storage media and accessories. You will also find periodicals and monthly publications that help keep you informed on new products and how to use them.
The Digital Department also features multimedia stations for checking out the most current software packages and I/O hardware.
There is also a whisper room for checking out the subtleties of microphones in an acoustically controlled environment, a dedicated monitor room filled with the most respected names in reference monitors today and an effects/processor wall which displays the most recent developments in rack mountable tone shaping.
The Pro Keyboard department displays the newest technologies and innovations in synthesizers, synth modules, samplers and digital workstations. Accessories like keyboard stands, cases, cables and any other related items are also available and always in stock. Our resident experts on all things pro keyboard make your shopping experience a breeze.
Our DJ Department is filled with the newest cutting edge gear of the genre. Turntables, CD players, mixers and related accessories like styluses, slip mats, cleaning kits, cross faders and headphones.
Digital Department - Specialized (3rd Floor)
Tom Lee also provides product and services to many clients who are post-production houses for film or commercial studios. These clients require high-end solutions with personal, individual service custom-tailored to their unique needs. Although this is not a walk in department, you can arrange to meet with our Digital Specialist to discuss your project or objectives. If you have any questions with regards to this service, please consult with our Digital Department staff for a referral.
Digital technology is cutting edge and new products are always being introduced. Our qualified and experienced sales staff are industry leaders in their respective fields of expertise, so you can count on accurate advice based on current technology trends.
More Music/Band Instrument Department (2nd Floor)
More Music is where you will find quality Band Instruments and accessories, musical gifts and any kind of print music you could imagine. There are educational materials such as method books and courses, educational software, instructional videos and texts such as the RCM, Henle Urtext and Norton score series among many other renown publications.
Our extensive Chorale selection and Band Instrument educational materials are presided over by dedicated specialists in these categories of interest. Jazz collections, classical works, personality folios and artist transcriptions make More Music a proverbial archive of the world's music. If by some chance the work you are looking for is not available, our unique special order system will ensure quick delivery in as little time as possible.
Band Instrument Repair (Basement)
Our Band Instrument Repair depot is the place you need to bring your band instrument if you need a routine tune up or a complete overhaul. If you have any questions about maintenance tips, mouthpiece options or even playing tips, the knowledgeable staff of the repair department can help. Not only are they the cities' finest technicians, they're also very exceptional musicians themselves.
Tom Lee Music Academy (3rd Floor)
The Tom Lee Music Academy has a distinguished reputation as one of the finest music education faculties in Vancouver. Our students consistently score in the highest ranks at RCM Examinations and competitions across the country. With over forty teachers and 35 classrooms, the Academy can provide a variety of programs for all kinds of instruments across the age spectrum.
Mark Charpentier (3rd Floor)
Mark Charpentier is available for consultation on high end digital solutions for recording studios, post production facilities and new media developers.
The Tom Lee Piano Department (2nd Floor)
The TLM Piano Department features a piano floor that is one of the largest piano showrooms in Canada. Just taking a look around this magnificent display of the world's finest pianos is in itself, an incredible experience. Featuring pianos from the world's most renowned and respected manufacturers, you will find the famous Steinways here and the acclaimed Petrof models, as well as Boston and the incredible Yamaha line. From beautiful grand pianos and uprights to hybrids such as the Yamaha Disklavier and the Clavinova, every option available in the world of pianos can be found here.
Other Departments
If you should need to speak to someone in administration or credit, our offices are located on the 3rd Floor. Kindly check in with our receptionist and she can put you in contact with the right person to whom you may wish to speak.
The Tom Lee Music Piano Prep Center
Located on the lower level, this is where pianos are tuned, repaired and our rental pianos are stored. Tom Lee provides piano services on call/site as well.
Our Neighbours
The Tom Lee Music building is also home to a Sony store, Aurthur Murray Dance Studios, E-Print and the offices of The Granville Entertainment Group. These companies are not in any way affiliated with Tom Lee Music. A directory located at the main entrance indicates the layout of the building and the location of the various offices and businesses.
